The Sicilian Clan

The Sicilian Clan

Il Clan Dei Siciliani” was one of the first non-spaghetti-western Ennio Morricone themes that really grabbed me.  Its main melody is simply perfect – with characteristic Morricone originality employing a “boing” sound to great effect – and the variations he develops through the score are subtly brilliant.  Perhaps not surprisingly, as perfectly as he captured a pseudo hispanic vibe for his Man With No Name scores, he really nails the flavor of his homeland here.

I listened to the whole thing through on Friday morning and it inspired my dinner for the night. PK and I had some friends over and I made fresh pasta (using our faithful Imperia pasta maker) with peppers and broccoli in a light cream sauce.  While we dined, I played the whole score through again.  It was perfect.
